Hello World

Welcome

This is the very first post on this blog. I wanted to start with something simple yet meaningful — a reflection on why the web still matters.

The web is built on three pillars: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Each one serves a distinct purpose:

  1. HTML provides the structure and semantics of a document.
  2. CSS controls presentation — how things look and feel.
  3. JavaScript adds behavior and interactivity.

Why Static Sites?

There is a growing movement back toward simplicity. Static sites load fast, require no server runtime, and age gracefully. As Ethan Marcotte wrote, the web should be resilient by default.

The web is not a platform. It is a material. You can build platforms with it, but the web itself is not a platform.

I believe that. A personal blog does not need a database. It does not need server-side rendering. It just needs well-crafted HTML, thoughtful typography, and a little care.

What to Expect

Here is what you will find on this blog going forward:

  • Long-form writing about technology and design
  • Occasional photo journals from walks and trips
  • Notes on tools and gear I use daily
  • Bilingual content in both English and 中文

I am glad you are here. Let us see where this goes.
